Don't Hide, Be Your True-Self

Like or don't like: Success in professional life is always evaluated in terms of your compensation, if you are an employee; and the turn-over of the company that you own, if you are an entrepreneur.

"Hey Abhijit, that guy got a new job with this much salary, why don't you get me something like that," is the most common dialogue in any conversation that I normally have with senior levels professionals from Corporate India.

Today morning I came to know that a professional friend of mine, currently working as Business Head with a reputed company, is joining another with a compensation of INR 2.5 crore per anum.

Incidentally, the new company, that he is joining, is already a favorite client of mine. So, the news of him taking over as the CEO made me so happy that I immediately sent a SMS, congratulating him for the same. In fact, he just called up - while writing this post - and I had a few minutes of interesting discussion with him.

Well, coming back to the topic, an hour after getting this information, when, while talking to a few other senior professionals - who know that gentleman - I shared this information, all of them started blaming themselves for not able to command a similar kind of compensation. And look, I'm talking about professionals who are already drawing a salary of around a Crore plus per anum. Well, those were private discussions.

Frankly speaking, with all their primary and secondary needs already being taken care of, so nicely, leaving them with a good savings as well, there is no reason for them to get frustrated. But they are, and quite deeply.

Based on my 15 years of experience in Executive Search industry, I'm sure, there would be very few professionals who would have a different thought process than what I have mentioned above. Surprisingly, the same set of people would leave no stone unturned to prove to the rest of the world, I mean in public,  that it's not money but happiness that they are searching for.

However, while doing so, they completely forget a simple fact that every human is wired to establish his supremacy over others. Why humans only, any living species does the same, because evolution is governed by a simple fact: Survival for the fittest. Animal have only muscle power, that they use to establish supremacy; humans have a better tool; Money, that they use for the same.

Remember, there is nothing wrong in aspiring to be more powerful -- and publicly admitting it too. Because, barring a few - I mean, who are truly selfless and devoted to betterment of society - all humans are traveling by the same boat and driven by an ambition to rule over the rest. So be your true-self, and have the courage to admit it too -- instead of acting hypocrite.
