The Brutal Killing of Professional Ethics!

He joined a day before vanishing from our client's organization.

With no verbal or written communication to the concerned person in that company - except a text message saying that due to some unavoidable circumstances he had to leave - neither to us, the Search Firm that placed him there, he just disappeared.

Despite making several calls to him on his mobile phone, both by the client as well our recruiter, he refused to respond . Later we came to know that he had joined another company.

It was a brutal killing of professional ethics and he, a senior level candidate from HR function, reminded us of an alarming trend of declining morale and ethical values.

First he dishonored the commitment that he had made to the company while accepting an offer, and secondly, adding salt to the wound, he just ran away.

Unfortunately people like him never realize how small is the professional world, where an apparently buried past may come alive anytime in future through a reference check.

The least he could have done, was to convey the facts to the concerned person and then leave -- not run away like a coward.

If you are in a similar situation, make it a point to honor your commitment; however, if, due to some compulsions you have no choice but to leave and join another company, please do it little gracefully by sharing the facts with your current employer.

But, never spoil your relationship with anyone in professional circle.
