Can We Live Our True Self?

Do we live our true self, or an image meticulously created to match a wide range of situations that we keep facing in daily life?

I think we're experts in creating a dynamic image of ourselves that keeps modifying according to the requirements  in different spheres of life but, most of the time, quite different than what we actually are.

Our external image controls the depth of relationship we have with people within our area of influence in terms of how caring and dependable we are.  We work hard to maintain this image, but how often we try to change our actual self, internally, to minimize the gap between external and internal self, is what my questions is?

Self-image is how we view ourselves: our characteristics and abilities, and how worthy we feel,  which is influenced to a great extent by our self-esteem. Can we genuinely refine our image of self according to the need of the situation, instead of pretending?

I believe we can , if only we are able to boost our self-esteem first. And to do so, we may follow the  guideline mentioned below :

1. Identify troubling conditions or situations

2. Become aware of beliefs and thoughts.

3. Pinpoint negative or inaccurate thinking.

4. Challenge negative or inaccurate thinking and

5. Change your thoughts and beliefs.

This last step is the most difficult task and, in that context, I remember a vibrant statement I read long ago :

"It is not our thinking that creates our circumstances, but the emotion that is attached to our thoughts. Thoughts become real things when accompanied with strong feelings and emotion, and those thoughts accepted as real or true becomes our belief".

It means that the success lies in controlling our belief system for developing the "self confidence" which is instrumental in facilitating the transformation.

Now, the most important question is :- "Can we control our emotions to strengthen belief system and become true self? "

Perhaps we can to a great extent if we try hard and then live our true self, genuinely refined according to the circumstances, to live up to the expectations of near and dear ones.
