Don't Let Down the Reputation of HR!

When a senior HR professional, who recently received an offer from a 3 billion dollar Indian company as global HR Head, called me up to inform that he had declined the offer, because, none of his well wishers - with whom he had shared the news - encouraged him to take it up, because of the company's outstanding reputation in the market as the mother of 'Human Resource Destruction,' I sat quietly and thought it over seriously.

Frankly speaking, I have been watching this drama, for long, of the Indian company owners making a mockery of HR and sharing the same in their private circle.

They say that they have to appoint a HR Head because that's the trend, but, actually, there is no need as such. What could be a better example of this pathetic state of affairs, than that of a client of mine - a 3500 crore plus Indian Corporate - which has been functioning without a HR Head for more than a year and half by now.

To make matter worse, another friend of mine, a reputed HR professional working as HR Head of a 1.5 billion dollar Indian Corporate, made an open statement on Linkedin that he is working under the mentor-ship of his owner.

Hey, come on! Are you supposed to work under his mentor-ship or he under yours? If not, why are you holding that position? Is it just because, what really matters to you is to receive a fatty paycheck in the beginning of every month -- nothing else?

Dozens of HR Heads from Indian companies, I personally know, are remarkably contributing to the growth and culture of  their organizations through innovative initiatives and effective leadership style of functioning. They don't fail to make their owners understand the importance of HR

Why not you, then?

Let us learn a lesson from their success story and never let down the reputation of HR.
